The 5 Obstructions Trailer
Looking at your early ideas, the lack of any formal briefs and talking to Sean about his ‘communicating emotions’ project it occurred to me that you need to think more closely about the framework you are working in. If you can’t clearly state what the problem is you are trying to solve (and for who?) then it can never be resolved. Is your line of design inquiry addressing problems / issues / ideas in the real world or is it imitating fashionable techniques currently in vogue in the motion world? I suggested to Sean to watch a film by Lars von Trier called the five obstructions which is all about communicating a central idea within 5 changing frameworks. Watch the film and see if it helps you with building your brief / framework.
The next post will be a motion piece by a 3rd year student from last years Dundee graphic design course. It addresses time / navigation / history in one beautiful kinetic structure. It is a thoughtful piece of user centered design that works within a clear structure and to a clearly defined audience.
